Cross Word is BACK!

Cross Word Cape Youth Camp is back and fast approaching! From 16 to 21 December 2022, we’re going to be back in beautiful Villiersdorp. This year we’ve got two awesome speakers: Nils Holmgren and Gareth Heuer—you can read more about them and what they’ll be teaching us on camp below.

If this is the first time you’ve heard of Cross Word, then you’re probably wondering what exactly we’re on about, well here is a brief explanation:

Cross Word is an end-of-year summer camp for teenagers in high school (grades 8 – 12) and for any grade 7 who is going to high school next year; about 300 people attend. Most of our time is spent in God’s Word (the Bible), getting to grips with what God says to us through it, and how we are to respond. We also spend a lot of time getting to know one another, whether it be eating food, playing soccer or board games, or just hanging out by the pool.

Cross Word is a life-changing camp and we really hope to see you there!

OUR SPEAKERS

NILS HOLMGREN

Nils is married to Chantelle and they have three awesome kids. Nils spent most of his childhood in Fish Hoek, where his love for mountains and the ocean was born. If he had more free time and endless cash, he’d be in great danger of becoming a beach bum. He gets a kick out of cooking great food and loves a fight to the death on the squash court. Most of all, he loves knowing Jesus and helping others to know him better. He is convinced that the Bible is the most precious resource in the world and that everything we need to find freedom and happiness comes from there.

This Cross Word, Nils will take us through the incredible story of the Exodus. There, we’ll be blown away by a God more powerful than we can ever imagine and more merciful than we could ever deserve.

GARETH HEUER

Gareth Heuer and his family are part of St James Church in Kenilworth. Gareth is the “Executive Pastor” of St James and this is just a fancy way of saying he manages the business and operations of the church. Prior to going into full-time ministry Gareth was very active and involved in the technology start-up space here in Cape Town. Gareth is married to Melissa and they have three boys Zac (7), Caleb (3), and Asher (3). You can refer to their family as the H5. Gareth loves reading and learning, loves talking about business, loves and follows most sports, and loves teaching the Bible and introducing people to Jesus.

On camp this year, Gareth will be taking us through the Apostles’ Creed to give us all greater confidence in affirming what it is we truly believe.
